In the ASAANZ’s Principles of Professional Responsibility ‘responsibility to the wider society’ comes second, immediately after ‘responsibility to research participants’. Anthropologists have a range of responsibilities to the wider society, including, but not restricted to, the responsibility of social criticism. Drawing on my own experience, I explore the varied history, difficulties and dilemmas of our attempts to carry out our responsibilities as citizens.Downloads
